Translating Evidence Into Practice

VLMA develops learning activities that help participants understand Lifestyle Medicine science and apply it responsibly within their professional scope.

Programs may be offered independently or in collaboration with universities, hospitals, clinics, professional organizations, and international partners.

Foundations and the Six Pillars

The scientific foundations of Lifestyle Medicine and its application across nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, social connection, and risky substance avoidance.

Behavior Change and Therapeutic Relationships

Motivational interviewing, health coaching, shared decision-making, goal setting, patient activation, and sustainable behavior change.

Clinical Application and Multidisciplinary Care

Lifestyle assessment, clinical pathways, referral, team-based care, group-based models, follow-up, and outcome measurement.

Social Determinants and Health Equity

Adapting Lifestyle Medicine to patients’ social, economic, cultural, and environmental circumstances.

Planetary Health and Sustainable Practice

Understanding the relationship between human health, food systems, the environment, and sustainable healthcare.

Evidence, Quality Improvement and Research

Critical appraisal, evidence translation, quality improvement, implementation, evaluation, and research collaboration.

VLMA activities may include:

Education for Organizations

VLMA works with healthcare organizations and educational institutions to develop context-appropriate programs for their workforce and learners.

Programs may address foundational Lifestyle Medicine, behavior change, clinical application, healthcare quality, team-based care, or selected pillars according to organizational needs.

VLMA may issue a Certificate of Attendance or Certificate of Completion for eligible programs.

CME or CPD credits are provided only when explicitly stated and delivered through an authorized organization or competent body. IBLM certification is issued exclusively by the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine.
